Trip Details : 

Join us to experience some of the most inspiring works from the 19th century by Celia Thaxter and other artists. Celia Thaxter was a poet, artist, and gardener that lived on the Isles of Shoals. We will visit two of these islands: Appledore Island and Star Island.  

This trip begins with bus transportation from Lebanon, NH, to Portsmouth, NH, where the group will board a ferry to Star Island. We will spend three days and two nights (August 10 - August 12) at the historic hotel located on Star Island.

This trip includes round-trip bus transportation; round-trip boat ride from Portsmouth, NH dock to Star Island; a round-trip ferry ride on Friday between Appledore Island and Star Island; accommodations for two nights on Star Island; meals include two (2) breakfasts, two (2) lunches, and two (2) dinners. Jo Evarts will offer a lecture/presentation while on Star Island.


Important Information to Note:

Jo Evarts is offering a summer course that delves in-depth into the history of Celia Thaxter. This would be an opportunity to learn about this intriguing historical figure; THE CLASS IS NOT REQUIRED TO ATTEND THE TRIP.  

History Behind the Trip  

Celia Thaxter grew up on the Shoals, where her father was the first to run the Lighthouse on White Island. She is known for her autobiography, Among the Isles of Shoals, where she relives vivid details of her life and love of these islands. Her artwork and writing drew the attention of many, inspiring numerous visits to the Isles.
