2026 SLS Prologue Lecture

This special event is a prologue for our 2026 Summer Lecture Series.

Artificial Intelligence - a Prologue for the 2026 SLS

Dr. G. Christian Jernstedt, Professor Emeritus of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Dartmouth, will offer a foundational lecture on Artificial Intelligence as an introduction to the 2026 Osher at Dartmouth Summer Lecture Series, which runs from July 8 through August 12.

Whether you’re planning on attending the Summer Lecture Series or not, this lecture will provide a down-to-earth discussion of what AI is and is not. As Dr. Jernstedt stated, “We’ll look behind the headlines, starting with the physically nearby origins of 'AI.' We’ll encounter extraordinary things AI can do today and uncover where dangers are hidden. The core ideas that will be discussed will prepare us to more fully understand the sessions of the Summer Lecture Series, which will address the question, How is Artificial Intelligence Transforming America?”

Chris Jernstedt has been involved with AI since he was an undergraduate in electronic and computer engineering at Carnegie Mellon. He has lectured around the world on the core neuroscience that undergirds modern AI applications. His recent two lectures on AI at Kendal at Hanover were very well received. One Kendal resident remarked that it was the best lecture he had ever attended, on any topic.
